About Pip & Pigment

A small crew who still love the work.

Pip & Pigment started in 2014 as one painter with a van, a ladder and very strong opinions about cutting in.

Our story

There are seven of us now, and we're still picky. We turn down jobs where someone wants a quick lick of paint over a cracked wall, because it won't last and our name would be on it.

We love old houses most of all. Half our work is Victorian and Edwardian homes around Northcote, Fitzroy North and Brunswick, where the prep is slow and the detail is the whole point.

And we're tidy. You'll get your house back cleaner than we found it, with the furniture where it was and the leftover paint labelled in the laundry for touch-ups.

  • 11years painting
  • 1,200+rooms painted
  • 190period homes
  • 2-yearworkmanship guarantee

What we stand by

Three things we won't budge on.

  1. 01

    Prep first

Two-thirds of our time on a job goes into getting the surface right before any colour goes on.

  2. 02

    Kind to the air

Low-VOC paints as standard, so you can sleep in a room the night it's painted.

  3. 03

    Left better

Drop sheets down, furniture back, rubbish gone and a labelled touch-up pot left behind.

Why Pip & Pigment

Most of a good paint job happens before the lid comes off. We fill, sand, scrape and mask until the surface is right, because paint shows everything underneath it. Then we cut in by hand, roll twice and walk the room with you before we call it done.
